Bedfordshire is a small county in the East of England. The river Great Ouse runs through the centre of Bedford. To help pedestrians access both sides, there have been many bridges built over the river. The most famous one is probably the butterfly bridge. It was built to mark the end of the 20th century. Locally nicknamed the ‘Butterfly Bridge’, the 32m span bridge (costing £390,000 to build) was completed in 22 weeks, and opened in November 1997.

As of 2005, the population of Bedford was 79,190. The area is 1235 km². Although this sounds like a lot, Bedfordshire feels like a small town to live in. It has a variety of cultures and religions, making it very diverse. There are also a lot of job opportunities, and good education facilities. Additionally, it is a well protected area, allowing everyone to feel safe.
